Portrait of the artist Pat Whittle taken against a tree

A native of the Washington D.C. area, Pat Whittle is an artist based in the town of Leesburg in Loudoun County, Virginia.  She holds degrees in both computer science and biology and has worked as a biology teacher, a software engineer, and  a homeschool mom.  Once the nest emptied, Pat turned to what she enjoyed most during her early years, drawing, and painting.

Pat soon pursued more formal art training. Through drawing and painting classes at the Northern Virginia Community College with Matt Pinney, and the Compass Atelier in Rockville with Glen Kessler, as well as workshops with Mitchell Johnson, Ann Schlesinger and other talented artists her skills developed.  Awards for her drawings and paintings came quickly at several NVCC Student Art Shows, and regularly at the Waterford Fair. Her work has been juried into local, regional and national shows.

Her most recent paintings range from surreal landscapes and elaborately patterned florals to more realistic renderings of nature and landscape. She creates works in both oil and acrylic and would love more time to learn more about relief printing. She is looking forward to further explorations, and expanding her body of work.

Eager to give back to the art community, Pat has been the president of the Loudoun Sketch Club and is the current Outdoor Committee Chair.

In addition to her art practice, Pat is an avid birdwatcher, a native plant enthusiast and enjoys spending time outdoors.
